An owl, a mess of sea creatures, and an imaginary friend
I am afraid my watercolors are getting angry at my neglect of them. But, the layering of paper patterns and cutting out of shapes has filled my mind of late. I fear that if I don't get this out of my system it will end in tears.
As it stands, I had dreams all night of creating my own form out of paper. I was unable to get the proportions correct. They were heavy in some places and too thin in others. In the dream I would be forever trapped in a hospital if I could not paperdoll myself. Perhaps this points to an obsession already too far gone.
But the bite of the scissors onto the paper is too good. The curving of forms and the immediacy of the image is like sugar. I still have been drawing. And in a way, I think of the cuts into the paper as a pencil on the page.
Also, the storytelling aspect of these dolls is more viewer friendly perhaps. Although I do like the gravity of drawings, the childlike primitivism of the paperdolls is appealing. I'd love to create the images for a story using this medium. Stay tuned on that front.
